Interpreters and Services for the Speech and Hearing Impaired
If you or a patient requires an interpreter or has special speech or hearing impaired requirements, inform a nurse or other staff member for assistance. For information, call the Interpreter Coordinator at 360-814-2398.
Interpreting - Translating
The Interpreter Services Department, under the supervision of the Director of Case Management, provides language interpretation and translation of documents as needed for all Skagit Valley Hospital patients. For information, call 360-814-2398.
Spiritual Care and Chaplains
The Spiritual Care Department at Skagit Valley Hospital provides emotional and spiritual support for patients, families and staff. The hospital chaplain responds to requests for care from patients and families, makes contact with local faith communities according to patient wishes, and supports patients and families during times of great stress or bereavement. Several spiritual care volunteers aid in caring for patients of particular faith communities. In addition, a volunteer team of local clergy and lay leaders makes spiritual support available for evening, overnight and weekend emergencies - making spiritual care services available 24 hours/day.
Anyone can make a referral for spiritual care or services. The chaplain may provide additional support especially in the following situations: New diagnosis, end-of-life decisions and care, fetal demise, special religious concerns that affect medical treatment, and additional care for patients who are far from home or without support systems.
Our new chapel at Skagit Valley Hospital is located off the main lobby and features stained glass by Camano Island artist, Jack Archibald. This space is a sanctuary for an array of needs. It provides a place of solitude for those who need a brief quiet moment, as well as a place for those who are dealing with unexpected tragedy to come together. The chapel is available to anyone who wishes to use the space.
Resources from a variety of faith traditions to help support patients are available in the chapel and also on each hospital unit.

Discharge planning by a nurse or social worker is available every day during business hours, to assist you with planning a safe, appropriate discharge either to home or to an alternative level of care, such as a skilled nursing facility.
Our Case Management staff includes registered nurses who collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and other health care professionals to deliver an effective, efficient and appropriate plan of care for patients. Case management is provided at no charge to physicians and patients. The service helps to facilitate the process to ensure that patients receive the care they need in a timely, cost-effective manner.
