Kenneth M. Oates, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with Northwest Orthopaedic Surgeons in Mount Vernon. His focus includes sports medicine and knee and shoulder reconstruction. Dr. Oates is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He served an internship, residency and research fellowship at University of California, San Diego, and a fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Sports Medicine Foundation working with the Denver Bronco Football Club and the U.S. and Disabled Ski Teams. He is certified in Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). He has volunteered at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
Dr. Oates is a surgical skills instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and Associate Editor Emeritus for the journal Arthroscopy. Given his extensive experience with sports, it is only natural that his specialty is in dealing with athletic injuries. Dr. Oates understands his patients’ interest in returning to an active lifestyle.
After completing his education, Dr. Oates was pleased to return to the Pacific Northwest with his family. He and his wife enjoy biking, skiing, karate and spending time with their son and daughter. As a family they appreciate the beauty and recreation this area has to offer and spend a great deal of their time enjoying the outdoors.
Dr. Oates is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and an active Member, of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
